Meet Neil Finegan, a seasoned professional with a diverse career journey. Starting from a BA (Hons) degree in History and Geography, Neil embarked on a Graduate training programme with Sainsbury’s HQ, paving the way for extensive experience in supply chain management. Today, he shares his expertise as an Academic Tutor for the DLC Training distance learning courses, empowering students to further their careers and develop their knowledge in a way that suits them.

Experience and Accreditation

From an initial BA (Hons) degree in History and Geography from Aberystwyth University, Neil entered a Graduate training programme with Sainsbury’s HQ that allowed him to move around different roles across the supply chain leading with a detailed focus on Logistics and Purchasing.

Four years later, his work as a Graduate Trainee in Supply Chain led to a career encompassing an industry think tank, senior management in two FTSE 100 companies, and managing his own business. His role as a Senior Supply Chain Analyst for the food supply chain led to working as a Supplier Collaboration Manager, where Neil worked in a purchasing senior management position. Here, he was responsible for a cost-efficiency team with a focus on all the functions and the objective of improving the profit margins. Here he was able to deliver a huge range of initiatives including data sharing, product engineering and range rationalisation.

In June 2022, Neil began to share his wisdom taking on the role of Academic Tutor covering topics including International Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Change Management and Finance. Continuing in this role today, Neil provides expert one-on-one support to individual students who are looking to expand their knowledge and undertake personal development.

In addition to his wealth of supply chain and business management experience, Neil has also broadened his own management skills with a Level 7 CMI qualification. He enjoys keeping his industry knowledge up to date so that he can provide the best teaching to his students.

Hear From Neil

All of my career has been about developing my knowledge of the supply chain and now helping other people to do the same. The role I’ve taken on as a tutor allows me to help others and their personal development while continuing to keep the most up-to-date knowledge of supply chain management in circulation with the future of the industry.

Outside of work, I’m a keen amateur runner at club and county level, representing Cheshire.  If not running, I can often be found wandering up and down hills with my family and Labrador, enjoying the work/life balance distance learning education allows.
