Module Format
The ‘Principles behind logistics requirements of a supply chain’ bite-size course has been written and developed by experts with combined experience, totalling decades, of working in logistics and the wider supply chain industry. Using first-hand knowledge and experience of logistics requirements and functions, within modern business, the introductory course has been written to support you with expanding your understanding of:
- What is meant by the term logistics
- Who the customer is and the part a logistics team plays in achieving customer satisfaction
- Putting yourself in the customer’s shoes
- An understanding of the cost of logistics including how to make savings in certain areas
- A good knowledge of outsourcing
- An idea of some of the legislation and regulations involved within logistics
The course is designed to give you a detailed introduction to, and understanding of, the principles behind logistics requirements within the supply chain.
The bite-size begins by exploring what is meant by the term Logistics and understanding the Logistics Process Cycle. You will then go on to gain insight in to who the customer is and the part a logistics department plays in achieving high levels of customer satisfaction. Looking at logistics services through the eyes of the customer, before moving on to looking at the power shift in the supply chain and the ‘Rise of the Big Player’.
Once you have a firm understanding of the responsibilities of a logistics function within the supply chain, your studies then move on to focus on the total cost of logistics services and how, and when, different methods and levels of outsourcing can help ensure high levels of customer satisfaction in a cost effective way.
The course concludes by looking at the legislation and regulation that applies to logistics which will also advise on types of licences required to ensure you have a rounded knowledge of the purpose, roles and responsibilities of logistics within the wider supply chain.

The self-test questions can be answered whenever you choose and as often as you require. Designed to help you re-cap on the subjects covered within each topic, the self-test questions also demonstrate to IoSCM that you can now successfully implement your new knowledge within the workplace, achieving the standards required to meet the demands of the modern workplace. In order to complete your bite-size studies and receive your certificate you need to achieve an overall score of 80% + on the questions. Don’t worry if you don’t achieve this on your first attempt, simply revisit the topic, refresh your knowledge and try again.
Once you have achieved the required score you have successfully completed your bite-size studies with IoSCM. Your IoSCM certificate is now available for you to download and will make a great addition to your C.V.
