At our success rally (available to see here) Marianne gave a presentation on ‘how to be successful’ this is a written overview of the talk. The presentation itself can be viewed below.
Marianne Page: How to be successful
‘So many of us don’t stop to think, we don’t stop to think about what success looks like to us’
For a quarter of a century, Marianne stood out in a global organisation with 420,000 employees, recognised with two of the Corporation’s highest awards. Over these years, Marianne performed impeccably within a multitude of different roles, demonstrating many diverse skills in her mission to promote success. This time at McDonald’s makes Marianne one of the world’s most qualified experts on the practicalities of implementing processes, systems and efficiencies. In short, she has a wisdom which comes only from a vast store of hands-on experience.
In her presentation at the success rally Marianne spoke on the subjectivity of success, each person ought to have a different interpretation of success based on what it means to them. How to be successful starts with the question, what is my version of success?
Too many of us choose a proscribed version of success, a version imposed upon us it becomes vague and wholly unachievable as it doesn’t apply to us. Instead we should figure out our own version of success, as Marianne said:
‘Success is a destination, once you know it you can start planning a course’
As mentioned, Marianne’s major talent was the ability to replace herself with systems, giving the her the opportunity to improve other areas of the business. But, eventually Marianne realised she had completely replaced herself, forgetting the things which were really important to her, her version of success. This was a blessing in disguise, as it gave her time to reflect on her own values and interpretation of success.
‘We don’t stop to see what our idea of the future will be like.’
The emphasis was on slowing down, and constantly evaluating your current situation with your goals. If your life isn’t where you want it, then make a change. Marianne made her change, leaving McDonalds in 2009. Since then she has worked towards and achieved her version of success, publishing books and founding Bright7, a management consultancy firm.
‘The action we take and the choices we make, every single day, will determine our future.’
It was a great start to the event, affecting all whom attended. We all went away from the talk full of introspection and evaluation. Looking to make positive changes in our life in our journey to comprehend and realise our goals. Watch the presentation to take control of your future and understand what success means to you.
