Measuring organisational performance is a standard process for all businesses. Some factors that affect organisational performance include organisational structure, leadership, and productivity. Technology and the external environment are also important factors. Employee development is also a major influence, but its importance is often underestimated.

Research carried out by the Association for Training and Development (ATD) found that companies with greater expenditure on learning and development achieve a 24% higher profit margin than those that do not. It also found a staggering 218% increase in income per employee. It’s clear that employees are the driving force behind organisational performance. Their training and development should be a top priority for business growth.

There are six main ways learning and development can positively impact organisational performance. This includes:

  • Optimises operations
  • Encourages innovation
  • Increases adaptability to change
  • Enhances technological capabilities
  • Improves communication
  • Helps to gain and retain top talent
