10th February 2011 – A North East based distance learning college has more than doubled the number of adults studying professional qualifications with them in just 6 months.
DLC Training & Training, based in Meadowfield, Durham, provide professional qualifications in management, purchasing, logistics and manufacturing to students across the UK and internationally.
Over the past 6 months the college has seen student numbers rise from 260 in August 2010 to 562 in January 2011 and the numbers continue to grow. The college support a large number of students across a wide range of age groups, from 18-60 years old, in the North East as well as internationally, with students in over 47 countries worldwide and has previously won awards for the tuition they provide.
The increase in student numbers reflects an increased focus from adults looking to do more to improve their career prospects.
“Our students choose to study industry recognised qualifications with us for a number of reasons whether to further their prospects within their current roles or help them to get back into employment. We also support a number of students who have recently left the armed forces and are looking to gain qualifications to support their careers outside of the MOD” says Stanley Wise, General Manager at DLC Training & Training. “The increase in student numbers over the past 6 months is a clear indication of the determination adults throughout the North East and across the UK have in furthering their careers.”
Not only has the college seen an increase in new student numbers, but the number of adults who go on to complete the next level course in a particular subject within 6 months has risen to over 20%.
Distance learning continues to grow in popularity as it provides an appropriate means for adults working full-time to achieve the qualifications they need to progress. The study method enables students to study in their own time, in their own pace, with support from a tutor via email and telephone.
Chris Leech, a recent DLC Training & Training student working at Intersnack in Stanley, Durham, who also won an award from The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply for achieving the highest aggregate exam mark in the UK while studying with DLC, says that gaining qualifications and studying via distance learning were of great benefit to his career, “Gaining a professional qualification has had no end of benefits for me and I would encourage anyone looking to develop themselves to take that step today. Distance learning courses provide an opportunity to gain qualifications while maintaining a full time job and can fit comfortably around work and family life making it easy to achieve more in your career.”
