What is Armed Forces Week?
Armed Forces Week is a national event which celebrates the work of the men and women who make up the community within the United Kingdom. This includes those who are currently serving, veterans, reservists, cadets as well as their supportive families. It’s the perfect opportunity for the public to give their thanks while also showing support for our troops and their families for all they do.
Armed Forces
Our active Armed Forces includes the Royal Navy, British Army and the Royal Air Force. Our troops work around the world and have a common goal, to keep the United Kingdom safe. A dedicated day for our active troops takes place on the Saturday during this week every year.
Families
It’s also important to celebrate the families of military personnel. Their support, flexibility, and commitment to our serving personnel allows our troops to carry out their roles and support our country.
Veterans
Veterans includes individuals who have previously served within the military. The week proudly celebrates their continued role within the military community.
Reservists
Reservists balance their civilian lives with their military commitments. While having lives and careers outside of the armed forces, they have dedicated their spare time to train within the military, and be on hand should the country require. An annual Reserves Day also takes place during the week-long event every year.
Cadets
The Cadet Forces consists of over 130,000 young people across the UK. Although they may be too young to go straight into service, they are working towards qualifications and developing skills that will support them in their military careers.
