Nevil Tynemouth and Mike Lever: Going from good to great
‘To unlock your potential, confidence is fundamental’
Their job is their passion, with a goal of helping their clients understand their full customer journey, to improve their sales performance and capacity through a ‘customer first mentality’. And with over fifty years between them, Mike and Nevil are experts in helping people achieve success. With New Results Training, they actively seek out those who can benefit from their knowledge and go from good to great.
In their presentation, Nevil and Mike spoke of going from good to great: the process by which a person who is capable can overcome their obstacles and become the best version of themselves. They took an obviously well researched, interesting subject and made it incredibly engaging with entertaining audience participation and an extraordinarily high energy performance. They emphasised that going from good to great is a journey, which cannot be completed but requires constant effort, resulting in constant improvement.
‘The route of good to great is embedded in emotion’
Before we realise what’s going on, we’re guided through economics, philosophy, psychology and physiology. However, we don’t feel the academic strain as we find out that going from good to great is a simple process: somebody who is in a positive state of mind, naturally or induced, are able to do more things over a neutral or miserable mind. They use somebody getting a promotion as an example, we can see they immediately become a better version of themselves, a worker 2.0; they attribute this to a more positive mental state.
‘Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right’
They used this well-known phrase, but showed how you can apply it to other people. They asked, ‘what can you do to encourage positivity, that won’t blow the budget’. Cakes, was a well-received answer, as was praise, inclusivity and relationship building. Their easy to implement advice was simply the encouragement of a positive atmosphere in the workplace. To remember the good things and help others do the same. Going from good to great goes beyond the individual level, a work place can also go from good to great.
‘Your true potential exists outside your current comfort zone’
The emphasis on the talk was on constantly trying to step outside your comfort zone, after all, ‘if you exist inside your comfort zone, there’s nothing new to learn, nothing new to do, no-where for you to develop. A positive attitude is one thing, but it doesn’t lead to constant improvement unless it’s used for the expansion of your comfort zone and the embracing of new ideas. As they said: ‘Activity will bread opportunity – only then can you step outside your comfort zone and move from good, and move towards great’.
The presentation was seamless, carefully structured and detailed. They took a complicated subject and it became effortless. It was truly life changing for many present… Watch it here!
