FCILT stands for Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. The FCILT acronym is used as a postnominal (letters after a person’s name).

FCILT is one of a number of membership grades within the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Gaining any one of these grades is a symbol of your status within the logistics and supply chain fields, and helps to mark you out as a professional within your chosen industry.

There are five separate membership grades within CILT – Affiliate, Student, Member, Chartered Member and Chartered Fellow.

Affiliate Membership:

Affiliate membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is available to anybody – whether you’re working in a junior role in the logistics and transport field or simply have an interest in the subject. Affiliate membership gives you many of the member benefits of being part of CILT, although some benefits such as voting rights and the right to use postnominal letters are only available to those with higher grades of membership.

Student Membership:

Student membership of CILT is for those who are studying towards one of CILT’s professional qualifications. Once a student has completed their qualification, they will automatically revert to Affiliate membership until they apply for one of the higher membership grades.

MILT: Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport

To achieve the Member grade of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, you need to meet membership criteria of either:

•  Holding the Level 3 Certificate in Logistics and Transport, plus 3 years’ junior management experience in logistics.

•  Holding the Level 5 Diploma in Logistics and Transport, plus 2 years’ management experience in logistics.

People with no relevant qualifications, but over five years’ management experience, may also be considered for MILT status through application to the Institute.

CMILT: Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport

Chartered Membership grade is a highly prestigious status, equivalent in professional terms to other Chartered professions such as Chartered Accountants and Chartered Surveyors.

To be granted CMILT grade membership, you need to hold the Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport, and have at least five years’ experience within the industry, including at least two years at a senior level.

FCILT: Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

FCILT is the highest and most prestigious status available within the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and marks you out as a highly experienced professional who has reached the highest levels of achievement within logistics and transport. To gain Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, you must have at least 7 years in a position, or positions, of high responsibility in logistics and transport.

Those who have attained a position of eminence in logistics can also apply for FCILT status.

If you already have a CILT qualification, applying for full membership of CILT can give your CV an extra boost, certifying your working experience as well as the qualification you’ve gained.
