UCAS figures released this week show that nearly 190,000 students failed to get a university place this year.

The figure represents 27% of all students who applied for a place through UCAS, and is an increase from 139,000 the previous year.

There has been a huge increase in demand for higher education places, as more young people look to university education to increase their career prospects.
